Phase I
Please familiarize yourselves with the updated "Scoring Rules" - https://www79.myfantasyleague.com/2019/options?L=12763&O=09
You can compare them to last year's via this or that links.
The important things to notice are:
- Combined all offensive players to use same scoring system - QB, RB, WR/TE and (now) K
- Updated all offensive scoring categories to reflect negative scoring if either negative points or scoring is appropriate
- Cleaned up the scoring yardage numbers for both rushing and passing yards allowed for D.
- Changed Ds to allow for holding opponents to negative yards and receive points for it.
- Added a small additional D scoring category – hold opponents to zero or only one first downs for the entire game and receive a bonus
First and foremost, #1 makes the scoring system much easier to read and understand! The PKs were the only ones not included so it wasn’t a major change.
Update #2 really just ensured that IF a player did wind up with -2 yards rushing on the day, they are going to be -1 for rushing points. Though the rules were changed in 2007 to allow for negative points, upon further review, not all the categories were setup to allow them – my oversight and it has now been corrected.
Update #3 also makes things easier to read and understand. Both the rushing and passing yards allowed were changed to use more of our offensive scoring system, Starting at 10 points each for zero (0) rushing and passing yards allowed, the D will lose -1-point for each ten (10) yards allowed of rushing and 25 yards allowed passing. That means that once they give up either 100 yards rushing or 250 yards passing, they will receive zero (0) points. There are no negative points allowed after the “max” yards are reached. The 250 yards passing is an increase from our previous 200 yards allowed.
Update #4 follows on #3 and has been updated to allow for -1-point if (somehow) a D can hold an offense to negative rushing or passing yards.
Update #5 was something I came up with – if the D can hold an offense to either NO or a single first down allowed for the entire game, they receive a five (5) point bonus.
Those are the updates I’ve come up with to this point. I’m still working on some additional tweaks as well. These seemed easy and obvious so I hit them first and now I’ll see what else I can come up with.
NOW, I'd really like to hear some feedback from y'all, one way or another - good or bad - up or down - one and zero?
Let me know what you think and we'll go from there. Thx - late.

Phase II
Gentlemen - how you be? Good, glad to hear it, especially since it’s now LESS THAN A WEEK TILL DRAFT!! laugh
As you may have seen already, I've posted a league poll about rules mod #2 - changing the length of the regular season.
With 12 teams it has always been an easy system – three (3) divisions, four (4) teams each and with the 14-week (game) schedule you play all your division opponents twice and the rest of the league’s teams once. Very easy and it has served well. BUT I think we all agree that running our playoffs on weeks 15-17 are just not working out any longer and needs to be shortened.
SO, I’ve been looking at the options – which will all have a small cost, as I’ll explain. If we do the easy thing and drop the regular season down to a 13-week (game) schedule, we’d of course drop ONE (1) game out of the season. Again, the easiest way to do that is just not play one (1) out of the other eight (8) teams and the playoffs would run weeks 14-16. (And on week #17 the league rests!)
There is an option for doing 12-week (game) regular seasons. Making it as easy as about, you would drop TWO (2) regular season games out and only play six (6) of the other eight (8) teams in the league once and the playoffs would run weeks 13-15. Weeks 16 & 17 would not be needed.
Of course, there are other creative ways of reducing the regular season, BUT what I mention above keeps the focus on divisional games – which keeps with our NFL system as well. Win your division and then match your record up against the teams in the other divisions for playoff positions. Pretty straight forward and easy, no? LOL
Let’s take the first step - please vote ASAP on the poll and then we can have a further discussion about how we want to handle the change. We’ll go from there and get everyone on the same page. Good? Good. Late.
